National Polytechnic University of Armenia (NPUA)

Founded 1933 (chartered as the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute in the Soviet era to train engineers for the Armenian SSR; renamed State Engineering University of Armenia in 1991; renamed National Polytechnic University of Armenia in 2014). Armenia's premier engineering university, located in Yerevan with regional branches in Gyumri (Shirak region), Vanadzor (Lori region), and Kapan (Syunik region). Founded 1933 as the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute (Soviet era) to train engineers for the Armenian SSR. Renamed State Engineering University of Armenia in 1991 after independence; renamed National Polytechnic University of Armenia in 2014. ~10,000+ students across faculties spanning Mining, Metallurgy and Chemical Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Transport, Energy and Electrical Engineering, Cybernetics, Information Technologies and Electronics, Chemical Technologies and Environmental Engineering, Computer Systems and Informatics. Major training institution for Armenian engineers and ICT professionals. The 1988 Spitak earthquake (which devastated Gyumri/Leninakan) damaged the Gyumri branch but it was rebuilt with international assistance.
