Founded March 1999 (by Act of the National Assembly of The Gambia). The Gambia's first public university and the premier institution of higher learning in the country. Multiple campuses across Kanifing (main), Banjul, and the new Faraba Banta Campus (Lot 1 inaugurated March 2024, Lot 2 December 2025; Lot 3 will house School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences). 6,719 students enrolled (2023). Schools include Business & Public Administration, ICT, Education, Arts & Science, Law, Agriculture & Environmental Science, Medicine & Allied Health Sciences, Journalism & Digital Media, and Graduate Studies.
