FIRST PRESIDENT OF LAO PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC (1975-1991) after Pathet Lao takeover ended Lao monarchy. ~10,000+ students. Located in LUANG PRABANG — UNESCO World Heritage city (1995), ancient Lao royal capital, considered one of Southeast Asia's most beautiful preserved historic cities (gilded Buddhist wats, French colonial architecture, daily morning alms-giving rituals).
