Founded 1924 in mainland GUANGZHOU as KWANGTUNG UNIVERSITY by DR. SUN YAT-SEN HIMSELF (1866-1925, founder of Republic of China + leader of 1911 Xinhai Revolution overthrowing Qing Dynasty). Renamed National Sun Yat-sen University after Sun's death 1925. After 1949 division, mainland successor became Sun Yat-sen University Guangzhou (under PRC). Revived in Kaohsiung 1980 by ROC. ~10,000+ students. Strong marine sciences + business + engineering.
