Brunei's dedicated Islamic university, located in Gadong, Bandar Seri Begawan. Chartered 1 January 2007 by Royal Decree of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. Named after Sultan Sharif Ali (Brunei's 3rd Sultan, reigned 1425-1432) — a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad through Hassan ibn Ali, known for strengthening Islamic governance and bringing Sharia practice to early Brunei. Faculties: Usuluddin (Islamic Theology), Syariah and Law (Islamic jurisprudence), Arabic Language, Islamic Development Management, Islamic Economics and Finance, Halalan-Toyyiban Research Centre (distinctive halal-economy specialisation given Brunei's global halal-certification leadership), and Centre for Research and Publication.
