Founded 1965 (chartered as the Royal University of Fine Arts by King Norodom Sihanouk to preserve and develop traditional Khmer arts); closed 1975 (Khmer Rouge); reopened 1980 — the institution played a vital role in reviving Khmer cultural heritage after the genocide. Cambodia's premier fine arts and architecture university, located in Phnom Penh. Founded 1965 by King Norodom Sihanouk specifically to preserve and develop traditional Khmer arts. CLOSED 1975 under Khmer Rouge — devastating losses among masters of traditional Khmer dance, music, sculpture, and architecture. Reopened 1980 and played an EXTRAORDINARY role in reviving Khmer cultural heritage from the few surviving masters and refugees. Five faculties: Architecture and Urbanism, Plastic Arts, Choreographic Arts, Music, and Archaeology. Continues to be the central institution for transmission of classical Khmer arts including Royal Ballet, traditional sculpture, and Angkor Wat-era architectural heritage.
Always confirm a university's current accreditation with the named national authority, and that the qualification is recognised in the country where you intend to use it, before enrolling or paying any fees. AlmiStudy records information to help you check — it is not an endorsement.

Why this is free

AlmiStudy is part of AlmiWorld. It is free because its purpose is to help people find their way to education — and the wider project supports the Shamool Foundation, a free school for street children in Lahore (60 students, lunch, books and uniforms provided).
