Founded 1970 (as Université nationale du Gabon; renamed Université Omar Bongo in 1978). Gabon's first and largest public university, located in Libreville. ~30,000 students (2020). Founded 1970 as Université nationale du Gabon (UNG), incorporating institutions previously part of the Fondation de l'Enseignement supérieur en Afrique Centrale (FESAC). Renamed in 1978 in honour of President Omar Bongo. Two main faculties: Faculté de droit et de sciences économiques (FDSE) and Faculté des lettres et sciences humaines (FLSH). Rector: Pr Jean Jacques Tony Ekomie. Address: Boulevard Léon Mba, BP 13131, Libreville. WHED-listed.
