Formerly known as the Higher Education Accreditation Commission (HEAC); renamed and reorganised under Law No. 11 of 2020. Founded 1976 (chartered as Yarmouk University in Irbid — Jordan's second public university, named after the Battle of Yarmouk (636 CE) where Muslim forces under Khalid ibn al-Walid defeated the Byzantine Empire). Major public university in Irbid (northern Jordan), founded 1976 as Jordan's second public university. Named after the Battle of Yarmouk (636 CE) — the decisive battle where Muslim forces under Khalid ibn al-Walid defeated the Byzantine Empire, fought near the Yarmouk River in present-day Jordan. ~35,000+ students across 14 faculties: Arts, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Sciences, Education, Physical Education, Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Sciences, Law, Sharia and Islamic Studies, Mass Communication, Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, Tourism and Hotel Management, Fine Arts, and Archaeology and Anthropology. Particularly strong in humanities, social sciences, and archaeology (given northern Jordan's rich Roman/Decapolis heritage at Jerash, Umm Qais, etc.).
Always confirm a university's current accreditation with
the named national authority, and that the qualification is recognised in
the country where you intend to use it, before enrolling or paying any
fees. AlmiStudy records information to help you check — it is not an
endorsement.
Why this is free
AlmiStudy is part of AlmiWorld. It is free because its purpose is to
help people find their way to education — and the wider project
supports the Shamool Foundation, a free school for street children in
Lahore (60 students, lunch, books and uniforms provided).
