Founded 1986 (chartered as Université du Sud — Sfax, served as the flagship of southern Tunisia); renamed Université de Sfax 2004 under post-reorganisation Higher Education framework. Southern Tunisia's flagship public university, located in Sfax — the country's second-largest city and economic hub on the Gulf of Gabès.
