Founded in 1669 by Emperor Leopold I as the Royal Academy of Sciences (originally a Jesuit philosophical and theological institution), the University of Zagreb is the OLDEST university in continuous operation in Croatia and one of the oldest in Southeastern Europe. Modern university structure dates to 1874. Approximately 67,000 students across 31 faculties and academies — Croatia's largest and flagship university. Distinguished alumni and faculty include Nobel laureates Lavoslav Ružička (Chemistry 1939) and Vladimir Prelog (Chemistry 1975), inventor Nikola Tesla (briefly studied here), and most of Croatia's modern intellectual, scientific, and political leadership. Offers English-medium MD programme and various English Master's programmes. 🤝 Pakistani context: Zagreb has hosted Pakistani medical students through its English-medium MD; Croatian degrees recognised in Pakistan via PMC FMGE process.
Always confirm a university's current accreditation with
the named national authority, and that the qualification is recognised in
the country where you intend to use it, before enrolling or paying any
fees. AlmiStudy records information to help you check — it is not an
endorsement.
