Modern continuous university formed 2015 through merger of Montpellier 1 and 2. Approximately 50,000 students. The Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier (founded 1180) is the **OLDEST CONTINUOUSLY OPERATING MEDICAL SCHOOL IN THE WORLD**. François Rabelais studied medicine here in 1530.
