Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR)

Founded 2011 (under the LUANAR Act of 2011; predecessor: Bunda College of Agriculture, founded 1966 as a constituent college of the University of Malawi). Malawi's leading public university for agriculture and natural resources, located in Lilongwe (capital). Established 2011 under the LUANAR Act through the delinking of Bunda College of Agriculture (founded 1966 as a constituent college of the University of Malawi) and the Natural Resources College (Lilongwe) to form an independent agricultural university. Faculties cover agriculture, natural resources, development studies, food and human sciences, veterinary medicine, and animal sciences. International partnerships with CGIAR centres including ILRI; hosts the $3M+ Agricultural Transformation Centre (2025) for crop improvement, climate-resilient farming, and agricultural innovation. Strong extension and e-extension outreach to rural Malawi. NCHE-accredited; programme accreditation validated through December 2029.
