Founded in 1945 as the State Polytechnic, the Technical University of Sofia (TU-Sofia) is Bulgaria's largest and oldest specialised technical university. Approximately 12,000 students across 14 main faculties. Trains the majority of Bulgaria's engineers in mechanical, electrical, computer, and power systems engineering. Branch faculties in Plovdiv, Sliven, and the English-language Faculty of Engineering and the German-language Faculty of Engineering (joint with Karlsruhe). The German-language faculty (FDIBA, established 1990 in cooperation with TU Braunschweig and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) and the French-language faculty (FFOE) offer dual-language engineering education.
