Formed on 1 January 2019 through the merger of three former Institutes of Technology in Dublin: Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT, heritage to 1887), Institute of Technology Blanchardstown, and Institute of Technology Tallaght — together becoming Ireland's first 'Technological University' under 2018 legislation. Approximately 29,000 students — Ireland's largest technological university and one of the largest higher education institutions overall. Heritage to 1887 (Kevin Street Technical School) makes TU Dublin's component institutions among the oldest applied technical institutions in Ireland.
