Founded in 1845 as Queen's College Galway (one of three Queen's Colleges), became NUI Galway in 1908, and renamed University of Galway in 2022. Approximately 19,000 students. Located in Galway on Ireland's Atlantic coast — at the edge of the Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking region). University of Galway uniquely offers numerous programmes in the Irish language and has Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge in Connemara providing Irish-language third-level education.
