Founded in 1971 as the Limburgs Universitair Centrum, becoming Hasselt University in 2005, UHasselt is one of Belgium's younger and smaller universities. Approximately 7,000 students. Located in Hasselt, capital of Limburg province in eastern Flanders near the Dutch border. Distinguished particularly for its Faculty of Mobility Sciences (transport engineering and traffic safety, unique in Belgium) and for cross-border cooperation with Maastricht University (the Netherlands) — including joint Bachelor of Architecture and ICT programmes.
