Created in 1968 from the French-speaking branch of the historic Catholic University of Leuven (founded 1425) when Belgium's linguistic tensions split the original institution into Dutch-speaking KU Leuven (which remained in Leuven) and French-speaking UCLouvain. UCLouvain moved to a newly built campus in 1971 in what became the new city of Louvain-la-Neuve ('New Louvain') in French-speaking Wallonia. Approximately 38,000 students across multiple campuses: Louvain-la-Neuve, Brussels (medical sciences at UCLouvain Saint-Gilles), Mons, Tournai, and Charleroi. In 2023, the formerly independent Université Saint-Louis Bruxelles was integrated into UCLouvain as UCLouvain Saint-Louis Bruxelles. Top-ranked French-speaking university in Belgium; QS rankings typically place UCLouvain in the global top 150-200. Distinguished alumni include numerous Belgian political and intellectual figures.
Always confirm a university's current accreditation with the named national authority, and that the qualification is recognised in the country where you intend to use it, before enrolling or paying any fees. AlmiStudy records information to help you check — it is not an endorsement.

Why this is free

AlmiStudy is part of AlmiWorld. It is free because its purpose is to help people find their way to education — and the wider project supports the Shamool Foundation, a free school for street children in Lahore (60 students, lunch, books and uniforms provided).
