Created in 2009 through the merger of the Faculté Polytechnique de Mons (founded 1837 as Belgium's first engineering school) and the University of Mons-Hainaut. Approximately 9,000 students across campuses in Mons and Charleroi. The historic engineering faculty (founded 1837) makes UMons one of the oldest engineering schools in continental Europe. Mons served as European Capital of Culture in 2015 and as NATO's military headquarters (SHAPE) located nearby provides international community ties.
